Step by step

  1. Wait a few minutes on first boot. Newer platforms (especially DDR5) do memory training and can take several minutes, with restarts.
  2. Read the debug LEDs or code display on the motherboard: CPU, DRAM, VGA or BOOT tells you where it stopped.
  3. DRAM: reseat RAM until both clips click, and use the slots the manual recommends for two sticks (often A2 and B2).
  4. CPU: check the 8-pin CPU power cable(s) at the top of the board are plugged in.
  5. VGA: reseat the graphics card, connect its power cables, and plug the monitor into the card.
  6. Check the 24-pin cable and front-panel power switch wiring.
  7. Your CPU may need a newer BIOS. Many boards support BIOS Flashback with a USB drive and no CPU; see the manual.
